Driving across the country is fun once

Okay, I haven't used this blog in some time! It's been a little hectic... but now I'm back.

I love being a fan

I was never the most social person while growing up. Most of the time, I was alone as a teenager. Spare a few years where I had some friends, but only by proxy. I still found more solace in the media I consumed rather than the people I was around. These days, I have more real friends than ever, which I am grateful for. I miss them, too! Since they're on the other side of the country, I've been feeling pretty alone. Though I'm living with my partner, who I love an extreme amount, I've been finding a lot of comfort, again, in the media that I love.  It has me reflecting on how awesome it is to be a fan of things. I'm a fan before I'm a human, I think.  Thinking back as far as I can, the very first thing I was ever a fan of was probably the manufactured -- but amazing nonetheless -- band called The Monkees. My mom always bumped their greatest hits CD on her ginormous stereo every springtime. When I got my first laptop, I obsessively watched music videos of The Mo...

Going on and on about the Cherry Sisters

Last year, I attended Eastern Connecticut State University for one single semester. It was easily the best college experience I ever had, but because of money, I had to opt in for a more feasible route to get my undergrad degree. I had three of the best professors I could've asked for during my undergraduate experience who only affirmed that my field of study was the correct fit for me. I wonder if they've already forgotten about me since they have, what, hundreds (or thousands?) of students to deal with? I don't know.  Anyway, that semester gave me a research seminar. For the whole semester, I and my classmates chose topics of our choice to do rigorous research for, and ultimately, write a research paper and deliver a presentation about it. My thing is that I seriously love comedy. I mean, I'm a comedy school dropout. That gives me some merit, right? I truly believe that I was seriously snubbed by being born in 1999 instead of 1880, so I could've been in my prime d...

June reading roundup

Image
Okay, how the heck is it already the end of June? I feel like March happened last week, when I first got to California. Soon I'll be driving back east -- in only eight weeks! Well, I've been doing a whole lot of reading since I got here. One thing I'll miss about working in San Francisco is the commute. I had two hours of commute time every day, which meant two hours of reading every day! 99.99999 (and on and on) % of my reading has been on the BART. It's honestly very likely that that will be the only thing I'll miss about working in SF. I'm personally just not a fan.  Here are the numbers: Books Read in June: 4 Percentage of reading goal reached: 76%  Currently reading: 2 DNF: 1 My 2025 reading goal is to read 25 books. I know it's not as impressive as other readers' goals and reading pace, but I think that's okay. 4 books in the month isn't a lot, either! Everyone's reading pace is different.  The Books I Read :   Jasmine Zumideh Needs a...

Barbie stuff I think about a lot

Image
9/10 times I go into a Target, I walk down the Barbie aisle. I think I played with dolls until I was maybe 16. Every day I wish I didn't stop!! I had the coolest dolls when I was a kid.  I'm going to be honest, I've been feeling so nostalgic for growing up in the 2000s. Everything I ever loved has come back: Bratz, Monster High... other things? For some reason MyScene made a brief comeback in 2024 that I didn't know about until just now? I don't know if Liv dolls will ever return, but I will be waiting.  Out of all of the dolls I had, I must say that I am definitely more for Barbie. Not the Barbie, but Barbie accessories, houses, clothes, and my most favorite doll ever: 2001 Palm Beach Barbie Midge.

Our very first national park trip

The beginning of something boast-worthy  unforgettable On the weekend of 7-8 June 2025, my amazing partner and I went to our very first U.S. National Parks: Sequoia and Kings Canyon!  I think everyone planned to go to Sequoia on this weekend, because finding parking was the most impossible task.
